NWU Student Portal and eFundi

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

Once you register at North-West University (NWU), you use the NWU Student Portal for administration and eFundi for your online learning. One NWU password gives you access to eFundi, your NWU email, Microsoft Office 365 and other NWU systems. The guidance below comes from NWU's eFundi guides, library password guide and study fees pages.

Your NWU username

Your username for eFundi and other NWU systems is your NWU student number.

Your first password

According to NWU's eFundi guide, your initial password is your ID or passport number followed by @Nwu. Change it to your own password once you log in.

Logging in to eFundi

  1. Go to the eFundi website.
  2. Click the Login button at the top right of the screen.
  3. Enter your NWU student number as the username.
  4. Enter your NWU password.

If you forget your password

Use the Reset Password or Forgot Password option on the eFundi page before you log in. The system checks your details, and if they match your academic record, it sends a new password by SMS or email. If your details do not match, visit Academic Administration to update them.

Password expiry

For full-time students, NWU passwords expire every 90 days. Because the same password works for eFundi, email and Microsoft Office 365, changing it updates your access to all of them.

The NWU Student Portal

The Student Portal is where you handle student administration. For example, senior students can request a fee quote through the portal, and all student enquiries about accounts must be logged through the portal's Helpdesk menu.

The application portal is different

Before you register, you use the NWU online application portal, where your username is your email address. After registration, you switch to your student number and NWU password for eFundi and the Student Portal.

Paying fees

NWU payments must be made through its online payment portal. Parents and sponsors can contact the study fees office on each campus, but students should use the Helpdesk on the Student Portal.

Getting help

For eFundi help, use the support link on the eFundi login page before you log in. NWU's library guide lists the IT helpdesk on 018 285 5930.

First-year students

NWU publishes a guide for first-year students on using eFundi, so work through it in your first week to find your modules and study material.

Stay safe

Never share your password. Keep your cellphone number and email up to date on your academic record, because password resets are sent to them. See the NWU application status page, or read the NWU overview.
