Stellenbosch University (SU) offers undergraduate programmes through nine faculties, mainly on its Stellenbosch campus, with medicine and health sciences on the Tygerberg campus. All its programmes are selection programmes. The details below come from SU's 2027 undergraduate prospectus.
SU's faculties
- Faculty of AgriSciences: agricultural sciences, including a programme with the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute
- Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences: BA degrees, including BA (Law)
- Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences: BCom and accounting degrees
- Faculty of Education: BEd degrees and the PGCE
- Faculty of Engineering: engineering degrees
- Faculty of Law: the four-year LLB, plus interfaculty programmes such as BA (Law), BCom (Law) and BAcc LLB
- Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences: the MBChB and other health sciences degrees, at Tygerberg
- Faculty of Science: BSc degrees with focal areas
- Faculty of Theology: the BTh (three years) and BDiv (four years), each needing an NSC aggregate of at least 60%, excluding Life Orientation
Interfaculty programmes
Some programmes combine two faculties. For example, you take modules from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in BCom (Law), or from Law and Arts and Social Sciences in BA (Law).
Selection
SU receives more applications than it has places, so meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Each faculty selects applicants using its own selection guidelines, which SU publishes on its website. Some faculties, such as Medicine and Health Sciences, also consider non-academic merits.
Extended curriculum programmes
Several faculties offer an extended curriculum programme, which adds a year. For example, Theology considers applicants with an NSC aggregate of 55% to just under 60% for its extended programme, which may include an interview. Applicants from designated groups who did not get a final offer may ask for admission to an extended programme in January.
The NBT
SU does not require the National Benchmark Tests for 2027 admission, except for all Faculty of Law programmes and some applicants with other school curricula. Law applicants must write the NBT before the end of July.
Help choosing
SU's Student Recruitment division offers face-to-face or online consultations about programmes, and career planning assessments for Grade 11 and 12 learners. Book on 021 808 4709 or csr@sun.ac.za. SU also holds an Open Day each April, with an online version running until July.
How many choices
You may apply for three undergraduate programmes, and SU considers you for all of them. See the Stellenbosch admission requirements page and the how to apply page.
