The University of Pretoria (UP) publishes its admission information for 2027 as a requirements brochure, titled Application requirements for NSC/IEB for 2027, along with separate faculty brochures. Together, they act as UP's undergraduate prospectus. Here is what they contain and how to use them.
The requirements brochure
The brochure lists every undergraduate programme by faculty, with the minimum achievement level in English and Mathematics and the APS each programme needs. It also shows each faculty's closing date, and marks selection programmes, where additional selection criteria apply.
Closing dates in the 2027 brochure
- Faculty of Veterinary Science: 31 May
- All other faculties: 30 June, including Economic and Management Sciences, Education, Engineering, Built Environment and IT, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law, Natural and Agricultural Sciences, and Theology and Religion
Faculty brochures
Each faculty publishes its own undergraduate brochure, with more detail on its programmes, careers and selection. The requirements brochure links to them with a QR code, and UP's faculties pages give their contact details.
Programme name changes
The brochure explains that UP is aligning its qualifications with the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework (HEQSF), a national process led by bodies such as the Department of Higher Education and Training and SAQA. So some programme names may change. Contact your faculty if you have questions.
How to use UP's documents
- Calculate your APS and find your faculty in the requirements brochure.
- Check the English, Mathematics and APS requirements for each programme you like.
- Note whether it is a selection programme with extra criteria.
- Read the faculty brochure for details.
- Use UP's programme calculator, which shows the programmes you may be considered for based on your subjects and marks.
- Apply online before your faculty's closing date.
Applying
Applications for 2027 opened on 1 April 2026. You apply online, upload your ID and results, indicate your residence preferences and pay the application fee. Residence placement depends partly on your application date, so apply early.
Selection programmes
Programmes marked as selection programmes in the brochure use additional selection criteria, on top of the minimum APS and subject levels. For these, meeting the minimum is only the first step, so apply early and keep a second option.
Residence and funding information
UP's frequently asked questions explain residence placement, which depends on your Grade 11 APS and application date, and its Student Funding pages list achievement awards, NSFAS and bursaries. Read them alongside the brochure.
Fees
UP publishes tuition fee information separately, and tuition fee quotations are available as a self-help function on the UP Portal.
