After you apply to the University of the Western Cape (UWC), you receive an acknowledgement by email and can check your status online on the UWC Student Portal. The steps below come from UWC's application information and its 2026 registration and orientation guide.
Acknowledgement
After you complete the online application form, UWC emails you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application. Current Grade 12 applicants also receive this acknowledgement by email.
How faculties decide
Each faculty considers every application and makes final offers as necessary. Grade 12 applicants receive communication by email no later than January. If you completed matric in 2025, UWC sent an email or SMS in January 2026, after the final results, confirming your offer status.
Check your status online
Log in to the UWC Student Portal with your student number to see your status. Decisions appear immediately once they are made, so check regularly.
What Pending means
If your status shows Pending or Awaiting Final Decision, you have been placed on a waiting list. Decision-making is an ongoing process, so keep checking.
Accept within three days
Once you receive a firm or final offer, accept it within the set time. In 2026, UWC asked applicants to accept within three days on the Student Portal or by calling the Contact Centre on 021 959 3900. UWC does not accept confirmations by email. If you do not accept in time, the offer is withdrawn and offered to someone else. You may still call or email the Contact Centre to ask whether an expired offer is available.
After accepting
Applicants who accept receive emails about registration and orientation. To register, pay the upfront fee and wait for clearance by email and SMS, or contact finaid@uwc.ac.za if you are NSFAS-approved or on a bursary. Then log in to the Student Portal and complete your online registration.
Register on time
UWC does not accept late registrations unless your faculty gives permission. If you miss the registration period, your faculty may revoke your offer. If that happens, contact your faculty in case more places become available.
Previous UWC students
If you studied at UWC before and took a break, you need a letter of motivation to be considered for readmission to your faculty.
If you are not accepted
If you applied before and were not accepted, you must submit a new application for the next year.
