After you apply to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), you must track your application status online. CPUT does not post or email the outcome, so the online tracker is where you find your official outcome letter. The guidance below comes from CPUT's application FAQs and its 2026 registration book.
Confirmation of your application
You receive an Application Verification email for each programme you apply for. Check your junk folder if it does not arrive. You can also confirm your application through CPUT's tracking page.
Track your application
Regularly track the status and outcome of your application on CPUT's Track Application Status page. The official letter confirming the outcome can be downloaded there.
Final results in January
In 2026, CPUT evaluated the final NSC results from 14 to 19 January, and verified every result against the official results from the Department of Basic Education. The outcome was also sent by automated SMS to the cellphone number you gave on your application.
The 48-hour rule
Once you receive the SMS, register within 48 hours, or your space may be given to the next deserving applicant. In 2026, this rule applied from Tuesday, 20 January.
Waiting list and course full
CPUT considers Waiting List and Course Full statuses only once final evaluation is finished, or where spaces become available in the programme. Do not go to a campus to ask about a Waiting List or Course Full status. Keep tracking your outcome online instead, because any change to your status appears there first.
Meeting the minimum
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a place, because acceptance depends on several factors, including space.
Keep your details current
CPUT communicates through the email and cellphone number on your application, and it is your responsibility to keep them current. Update them on CPUT's SOS system if they change.
Before registration
When your status shows that you are fully accepted, check for any registration restrictions, such as financial blocks or academic exclusions, before you try to register. First-time entering South African students could register without financial clearance in 2026, but international students needed international clearance first.
Applying again
If CPUT does not accept you, you must apply again in the next cycle. Even if you were accepted before but did not register, a new application is not guaranteed a place.
Getting help
For help with registration after acceptance, contact the CPUT Call Centre rather than queuing on campus. See the CPUT student portal page.
