The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has residences linked to its campuses in Cape Town and surrounds. You apply for residence separately from your studies, and you register for your room online after your academic registration. The details below come from CPUT's 2026 registration book and its application pages.
Applying for residence
CPUT's undergraduate application section has a separate Apply for Residence step. Apply as early as you can, because places are limited.
Paying for residence
In 2026, the upfront payment for residence was R1,500, on top of R3,500 for tuition. South African and permanent resident students who could not pay these amounts could still register if they made acceptable payment arrangements with Student Debtors. Upfront payments form part of your fees and reduce your instalments.
Register academically first
You cannot register for a residence until you are academically registered. The Residence Division sends you the information you need.
How to register for your room online
- Go to the CPUT website and click Register Online.
- Choose to log in to the SOS self-service portal, then select Student and enter your student number and PIN.
- Select Residence Registration, read the student undertaking and click I Accept.
- Select Submit Residence Registration and choose your date in. The cost of your room appears.
- Click I Accept this Registration. A message confirms that your residence registration is complete.
- Select Proof of Residence Registration to print your proof, and submit it at your residence.
If you need the proof on an official CPUT letterhead, visit an online registration venue on campus during registration, or the Admissions and Registration Centre afterwards.
Check your proof
Verify that you registered correctly by checking the information on your Proof of Residence. Keep it, because your residence needs it.
NSFAS and bursary students
If NSFAS or a bursary funds you, your funding must be confirmed and vetted before you can be cleared. Monitor your myNSFAS account and your MyCPUT email for updates.
Paying the balance
Outstanding fees can be paid from February to November in monthly instalments, or by debit order over 10 months. See the CPUT fees page.
International students
International students must complete international clearance in person on campus before registering, and need South African medical aid cover valid for 12 months.
Getting help
For help with online registration, contact the CPUT Call Centre, which has extra resources during the registration period. Only visit a campus venue if the Call Centre cannot solve your problem.
