Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) offers higher certificates, diplomas and degrees through six faculties, on several campuses in Cape Town and the Boland. The details below come from CPUT's undergraduate application pages, its online prospectus and its frequently asked questions.

CPUT's six faculties

  • Faculty of Applied Sciences
  • Faculty of Business and Management Sciences
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment
  • Faculty of Health and Wellness Sciences
  • Faculty of Informatics and Design

Each faculty has its own online prospectus, which shows the subjects you need to complete, the admission requirements and the estimated cost of each programme.

Campuses

CPUT teaches at campuses including Bellville, District Six, Granger Bay, Mowbray, Tygerberg and Wellington. CPUT's list of programmes shows the campus where each is offered.

How you study

CPUT does not offer distance learning. Blended learning, with face-to-face and online classes, is decided by each faculty and programme, and your department tells you how your classes work.

Popular programmes and requirements

  • BEngTech in Civil Engineering: an APS of 36, using CPUT's Method 2
  • Bachelor of Nautical Science: an APS of 36, using Method 2
  • Diploma in Geomatics: an APS of 30, using Method 2
  • Diploma in Agricultural Management: an APS of at least 32

See the CPUT admission requirements page for how the APS methods work.

Early closing programmes

Some health programmes close earlier than others. For 2027, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography and Dental Assisting closed on 30 June 2026, and Emergency Medical Care, Opticianry and Somatology on 31 July 2026.

Extended curriculum programmes

Many diplomas have an extended curriculum programme, which spreads the first-year subjects over two years in a more supportive environment.

Exemptions and recognition

If you studied elsewhere before, you can apply for exemption and recognition of subjects on CPUT's Application for Exemption and Recognition form. CPUT also offers recognition of prior learning (RPL) for some undergraduate studies.

Academic exclusions

CPUT has an academic exclusion process, and excluded students cannot register until their case is resolved. Read the rules in your faculty's yearbook.

No second-semester intake

CPUT does not open undergraduate applications for the second semester, so apply for the start of the academic year.

Up to three choices

You may apply for up to three programmes in an application cycle. A fourth-choice option opens during registration, but only where faculties still have space.

Costs

Fees are charged per subject, and the online prospectus gives an estimate for each. Read more on the CPUT fees page, and see the how to apply page.
