CPUT Student Portal (SOS)

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) uses its SOS self-service portal for online registration, residence registration and student information. Registration is online, and CPUT encourages students to use it instead of standing in long queues. The steps below come from CPUT's 2026 registration book.

Logging in

  1. Go to the CPUT website and click Register Online.
  2. Select Log in to SOS (Self-Service Portal) to register.
  3. Select Student and type your student number and PIN.
  4. Click Login, or Request a PIN or Forgot PIN if you do not have it. CPUT sends your PIN to the email address on its system.

Registering online

Follow CPUT's 8-step online academic registration guide. Choose your subjects and, where a subject runs in both semesters, one academic period for it. Verify your subjects for the whole year.

You can print your registration or cost details, but you are not registered until you click Accept Registration. Once you click it, your registration is final and you are liable for the fees.

Proof of registration

Select Proof of Registration to print it. For an official version on CPUT letterhead, go to Student Enquiry and click Proof of Registration (PDF), then email it to the Admissions and Registration Centre. Click Process Status to check that you have completed every compulsory step.

Your student card

Returning students' cards are reactivated when they register. New and first-year students receive new cards, from 19 January in 2026, and need a physical or electronic proof of registration.

Residence registration

The same portal has a Residence Registration option, where you accept the student undertaking, choose your date in and accept your residence registration.

Adding or cancelling subjects

You can add or cancel subjects, or cancel a qualification, online through the portal, but only within the institutional cut-off dates.

Off-campus manual registration

If you cannot register online, CPUT has an off-campus manual registration process. Once you are financially cleared, the Admissions and Registration Centre captures your registration for you and sends a proof of registration and statement of account, which you sign and return by email.

Your MyCPUT email

CPUT communicates financial clearance and other updates through your MyCPUT email account, so check it regularly.

Updating your details

Update your address or cellphone number on the SOS system. Keeping them current is your responsibility.

Getting help

Contact the CPUT Call Centre for help with online registration. See the CPUT application status page, or read the CPUT overview.
