uLink is the student portal of the University of Johannesburg (UJ). It gives you access to support information, your learning management system and your learning material. UJ also uses a separate system, iEnabler, for registration and other student services. The guidance below comes from UJ's 2027 prospectus, its frequently asked questions and its uLink password notices.
What you can do on uLink
- Find the support information you need during your studies
- Open your learning management system, where your learning material and activities for each registered module are kept
- Get help with online learning from the Centre for Academic Technologies
Logging in for the first time
If you have never used uLink, choose the Create a password option below the login tile. Enter your student number and your ID or passport number, click Continue, and follow the steps to set your password.
If you forget your password
- Go to the uLink login page and select Forgot your password.
- Enter your student number and your ID or passport number.
- Follow the prompts, which include a token sent to your UJ email.
- Enter your new password twice and continue.
If you enter the wrong password three times, you must wait 15 minutes before you try again.
The iEnabler
UJ uses the iEnabler for returning student applications, registration, refunds, electronic academic records and residence applications. It uses two-factor authentication:
- Log in with your student number and 5-digit PIN.
- Create a password using the temporary password that UJ emails to the address on its student system.
- Next time, log in with your own password.
Your PIN and your password are not the same. UJ advises you not to use autosave or autofill when you log in.
Getting help
The Centre for Academic Technologies offers support with basic computer skills and Microsoft training, and it invites new students to these sessions. For help, email uhelp@uj.ac.za or call 011 559 3580.
Student support through uLink
UJ's prospectus notes that uLink is also where you find help with mental well-being, stress, study skills, writing and technology. If you are struggling with any part of student life, start there or contact the relevant support office on your campus.
Keep your details safe
Never share your student number, PIN or password. UJ sends tokens and temporary passwords only to the email address on its system, so keep your contact details up to date.
