CPUT Academic Calendar and Term Dates

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) runs a four-term year, and it published its 2027 term dates in July 2026. The document is a table for lecturing staff, administrative staff and students, and it lists the terms, assessment periods, results publication dates, graduation dates and public holidays. CPUT warns that the dates may change because of uncertainty in the sector. This page turns the table into a readable guide, as checked on 5 November 2026.

The four terms of 2027

  • Term 1: 1 February to 19 March 2027
  • Term 2: 30 March to 11 June 2027
  • Term 3: 5 July to 27 August 2027
  • Term 4: 6 September to 10 December 2027

Enrolment and registration

  • Undergraduate enrolment in January: 11 to 29 January 2027
  • First-year undergraduate registration: 19 January to 5 February 2027
  • Late registration: 8 to 26 February 2027
  • Postgraduate course-based students and returning students: 11 January to 26 February 2027, with faculties confirming the exact windows
  • 2026 NSC results: expected on 13 January 2027, to be confirmed by Universities South Africa

Assessments

The mid-year assessment period runs from 17 May to 4 June 2027, with a study week from 10 to 14 May. Results are published on 11 June, and the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment publishes on 18 June. The end-of-year assessments run from 25 October to 19 November 2027, after a study week from 18 to 22 October. All faculties publish end-of-year results on the same date, 6 December 2027. Re-assessments, which are only for students who were sick or have special circumstances, are set for 13 to 15 January 2027 and 14 to 16 July 2027.

Graduation

Autumn graduation takes place from 12 to 23 April 2027, over ten days. Summer graduation is on 9 December 2027. CPUT sets cut-off dates for marks, so a result that changes after the cut-off will stand over to the next ceremony.

Holidays and university closures

The table also lists public holidays, such as Human Rights Day on 21 March, Good Friday on 26 March and Family Day on 29 March. CPUT adds its own university holiday on 26 April 2027, between the weekend and Freedom Day. National Women's Day falls on 9 August, Heritage Day on 24 September and the Day of Reconciliation on 16 December. Lectures and assessments do not run on these days, so allow for them when you plan study and travel.

Why the table matters

CPUT's terms are uneven. Term 1 lasts about seven weeks, term 2 about ten and a half, and term 3 about seven and a half. Term 4 is the longest, at about fourteen and a half weeks, with a study week and examinations at the end. That shapes how you pace your workload. Postgraduate research students have separate dates: first-time master's and doctoral full-research applications close on 15 March 2027.

Using the dates for funding and applications
