DUT's history
DUT was formed in April 2002 by the merger of two technikons, ML Sultan and Technikon Natal. It first became the Durban Institute of Technology and later the Durban University of Technology.

DUT's campuses include Steve Biko, Ritson and ML Sultan in Durban, and Riverside and Indumiso in the Midlands. For example, the Department of Financial Accounting is on the Ritson Campus.

The Study Opportunities guide lists the 2026 fees for the modules in each programme, as the 2027 fees were not final when it was published. Read more on the DUT fees page.

DUT's Career Resource office, within the student counselling unit, runs webinars on coping with online learning and adjusting to campus in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Student support
DUT's Student Counselling and Health centre offers confidential counselling with registered psychologists, support groups and workshops for first-year students. Its PhakiMpilo programme gives food vouchers for two months to qualifying students who struggle to access food.
