Students at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) use a DUT4life account for their student email and Microsoft services, a student portal for administration, and Think Learn Zone, DUT's Moodle site, for online learning. The guidance below comes from DUT's IT Services student guide and its student FAQs.
Your DUT4life sign-in
Your sign-in name is your student number followed by the DUT4life domain. DUT's IT guide explains the default password format for first-time entering students. Returning students use the password they already use for their email or student portal, which is case-sensitive.
Think Learn Zone (Moodle)
Think Learn Zone is DUT's online learning platform, where your lecturers share course material. You sign in with your DUT4life account. If you forget your password, there is a forgotten password page on the site.
The student portal
DUT's student portal brings together student information and links to services. DUT's IT guide links to it and explains how to log in.
Password resets
For password resets and lockouts, email itstudentsupport@dut.ac.za. DUT's FAQ asks you to include your proof of registration, and its e-learning FAQ suggests including your student number and date of birth. You can also get help by phone on 031 373 4112 or 031 373 4113, or in person at the IT Student Centre in the ML Sultan or Steve Biko campus libraries.
Booking a financial aid appointment
DUT's Financial Aid department uses an online booking page on its DUT4life Microsoft account, so you can book an online appointment rather than queuing.
Paying fees
DUT holds you personally liable for your fees, even if you expect a bursary. Check your statements regularly, because DUT says not receiving a statement does not excuse late payment. You can get your latest statement through the student portal or your DUT4life email.
Keep your account safe
Change your default password once you log in, never share it, and keep your contact details up to date. DUT sends important information to your DUT4life email.
Library help
DUT's library runs an Ask a Librarian service with answers on how to log in to your email, access Think Learn Zone and reach databases from home.
Applying first
Before you register, you apply through the CAO, and DUT contacts you by email or SMS. Your DUT4life account is set up once you are a registered student.
Next steps
See the DUT application status page, or read the DUT overview.
