The University of Zululand (UNIZULU), based in KwaDlangezwa and Richards Bay, offers honours degrees, the PGCE, coursework and research master's degrees, and doctorates. You apply on the ADM01 form for academic admission to postgraduate studies, together with a departmental form. Here is how it works, based on UNIZULU's official application form.
Closing dates and fees
The ADM01 form lists three closing dates, for honours, coursework master's, and master's by dissertation and PhD applications: the end of October, the end of January, and 24 May. The non-refundable application fee is R150 for local students and R250 for international students. UNIZULU advises submitting your form as soon as possible rather than waiting for the closing date, so check the current form for the dates that apply to your programme.
How to apply
- Check the minimum admission requirements for your qualification.
- Contact the academic department and complete the departmental form PGRD2.
- Complete and sign the ADM01 form, showing your degree and, if possible, its qualification code.
- Attach certified copies of your ID, degree or diploma certificate, academic record with conduct, statement of intent and CV, plus proof of payment.
- Submit the forms to the CAO or to the KwaDlangezwa or Richards Bay campus admissions office.
If you were registered for the same qualification at UNIZULU in the previous year, you only need to complete the PGRD2 form. UNIZULU does not consider postgraduate applications without both forms.
Honours and coursework master's
You apply to the department that hosts the qualification. Its head of department assesses your academic suitability and either admits you or rejects the application.
Research master's and doctorates
First, discuss your topic informally with the head of department and a prospective supervisor. If they agree that you meet the requirements and that supervision is available, you submit a statement of intent. This is not a full proposal. It covers a preliminary title, the field and purpose of the study, preliminary work done, broad time frames and why you are suitable. The department may ask you to present it at a meeting or seminar.
Foreign applicants
Foreign students also need a valid passport and study permit, an original SAQA verification certificate, proof of financial means, and adequate medical insurance.
Credits and exemptions
To get credit for studies passed elsewhere, apply in writing on form SAF01. For recognition of a degree from another university, use form SAF04.
