University of Mpumalanga Application Status

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

After you apply to the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) online, you follow your application through the application portal and UMP's emails and SMSs. Firm offers are based on your final matric results. The guidance below comes from UMP's online application steps and its registration information.

Your student number and PIN

When you start your application, you capture your biographical information and create a 5-digit PIN. Your student number then appears on screen, so write it down. You use your student number and PIN to return to the application portal and check your progress.

Completing your application

Your application is complete when the progress confirmation shows 100%. Before that, make sure you have uploaded all supporting documents and added your academic applications, up to two choices, and a residence application if you need one.

Firm offers

To register online, new students need an admission letter from Student Admissions confirming a firm offer based on their final matric results. Check your email and the portal regularly after the results are released in January.

Monthly decisions

For some programmes, such as the LLB, UMP selects applicants every month. Applicants who exceed the minimum and have completed their NSC receive conditional offers, while those who just meet the requirements are placed on hold and reconsidered each month.

Register quickly

Admitted first-years must register within the registration period, because space is limited. If all places in a programme fill before the period ends, registration for that programme may close. In 2026, online registration for first-years ran from 2 to 30 January.

Documents for registration

Before you register, upload your ID, matric or senior certificate, and any academic record with a statement of conduct on the student portal under Certificates Seen, and pay the initial deposit.

Closing dates for 2027

  • Undergraduate programmes and advanced diplomas: 30 November 2026
  • Honours, postgraduate diplomas, master's and doctoral programmes: 30 January 2027

Funding status

An offer does not include financial assistance, so follow your NSFAS application separately on the NSFAS website and make sure funding is confirmed before registration.

Residence status

If you applied for residence, Student Housing contacts you separately. Keep checking your email for that message.

Keep your number current

If you change your cellphone number, update it on the student portal. UMP advises using your UMP student email for correspondence, because official messages and offers go there.

Getting help

Contact UMP's call centre on 013 002 0047 or 013 002 0050, or email studentapplications@ump.ac.za. See the UMP student portal page.
