University of Mpumalanga Undergraduate Programmes Guide

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) publishes an Undergraduate Programmes guide, its prospectus, with the admission requirements for each programme. It is linked from UMP's online applications page, along with the application steps. Here is what it contains and how to use it.

What is in the guide

Each programme entry gives its length and credits, the minimum Admission Point Score, the NSC endorsement needed, compulsory subject levels and, where relevant, NC(V) requirements and selection notes.

Example programmes

  • Bachelor of Laws: 4 years, APS 33, with selection every month
  • Bachelor of ICT: APS 32
  • BCom (General): APS 30, with Mathematics at level 4 and no Mathematical Literacy
  • Diploma in Nature Conservation: APS 30
  • BEd in Foundation Phase Teaching: APS 26 with Mathematics or 27 with Mathematical Literacy
  • Diploma in Hospitality Management: APS 24 with Mathematics or 25 with Mathematical Literacy
  • Higher Certificate in Event Management: APS 19 with Mathematics

Special rules

Some entries include special rules. For example, for the BEd in Foundation Phase Teaching, UMP uses seven prescribed subjects and divides the Life Orientation rating by two. For the LLB, at least half of the places are reserved for applicants completing the NSC.

TVET routes

Many entries list NC(V) level 4 requirements, and some ICT entries explain how students with a higher certificate or diploma in ICT may articulate into the Bachelor of ICT.

How to use the guide

  1. Calculate your APS, using each programme's specific rules.
  2. Check the compulsory subject levels.
  3. Note whether your programme selects monthly, so you can apply early.
  4. Choose up to two programmes and apply online, which is free from 2027.

Closing dates for 2027

Undergraduate programmes and advanced diplomas close on 30 November 2026, and honours, postgraduate diplomas, master's and doctoral programmes on 30 January 2027.

The fees handbook

UMP's 2026 fees handbook lists minimum and maximum fees for each year of every programme, the initial payments, residence fees for the Mbombela and Siyabuswa campuses, and payment terms.

The campuses

UMP teaches at Mbombela and Siyabuswa, and the fees handbook shows which residences and options exist on each campus.

Tips for applicants

Download the current guide before you apply, because APS figures and subject rules can change each year. If your programme selects every month, such as the LLB, apply as early as possible, and check that the campus you want offers your programme.

Faculty pages

UMP's website also has pages for each programme within its faculties, such as Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Economics, Development and Business Sciences, and Education.
