VUT Prospectus and Admission Requirements 2027

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) publishes a 2027 Undergraduate Minimum Admission Requirements leaflet, faculty prospectus information, a general prospectus and an annual student fee guide. Together, these are VUT's prospectus. Here is what they contain and how to use them.

The 2027 admission requirements leaflet

The leaflet lists every undergraduate programme by faculty, with its compulsory subjects, achievement levels and minimum APS. It also gives the closing dates, the application process and the documents you need. VUT notes that meeting the minimum subjects and symbols does not guarantee acceptance.

Faculty sections

  • Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences: programmes such as Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Information Technology and Medical Laboratory Science
  • Faculty of Engineering and Technology: diplomas in Chemical, Civil, Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Electronic, Power, Process Control and Computer Systems Engineering, and Operations Management
  • Faculty of Human Sciences: programmes in art and design, tourism, safety, policing, legal studies and education
  • Faculty of Management Sciences: accountancy, human resources, logistics, marketing, retail and sport management

How the APS works in the leaflet

VUT counts a maximum of six subjects and leaves out Life Orientation. Many programmes list two APS figures, a lower one with Mathematics or Technical Mathematics and a higher one with Mathematical Literacy.

Faculty prospectus information

Each faculty also publishes prospectus information with more detail on its programmes, such as the 2026 Faculty of Management Sciences and Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences documents.

How to use these documents

  1. Calculate your APS from six subjects.
  2. Find your programme in the leaflet and check its compulsory subjects and APS.
  3. Note whether your programme closes early.
  4. Choose a first and a second choice.
  5. Apply online and pay the R110 application fee on the portal.

Closing dates

The leaflet lists 30 September for academic applications and 31 October for residences. VUT's application page gave 30 October 2026 for national applicants, and several programmes closed on 31 July 2026.

The student fee guide

VUT's student fee guide for 2026 gives estimated costs per course, residence fees, sundry fees, the first minimum payment of R2,500, discounts and cancellation conditions.

TVET and mature applicants

The leaflet also covers TVET qualifications, such as N4 results, and age exemptions for some programmes, where applicants aged 23 with Grade 12 can submit proof of related employment.

Tips for applicants

Download the current leaflet rather than relying on an older copy, because subjects, APS figures and closing dates can change from one year to the next. Apply early if your programme closes in July.
