The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) manages its residences through its Department of Student Accommodation and Catering (SAC). You apply for residence on the ITS iEnabler and then register for your room online. The details below come from VUT's 2026 student fee guide and its residence notices.
Applying
VUT's iEnabler has a Residence Application menu, where you apply for accommodation. For 2027, VUT listed 31 October as the closing date for residence applications. Residence registration only becomes active once you complete your academic registration.
Signing in to your residence
In 2026, first-year students could sign in to their residences from Friday, 23 January, if they had:
- Completed their online academic registration
- Completed their residence registration online
- A valid VUT residence accommodation allocation
Bring proof of residence registration, proof of academic registration and a copy of your ID. Students without completed registration or an accommodation offer may not sign in or move in.
Residence fees in 2026
Annual residence fees ranged from about R31,758 to R53,300, depending on the residence. For example, Sinqobile and Lethabong cost R36,638, Meropa and Science Park R43,652, and Khayalethu and Ubuntu R50,048. Kutwanong and Meloding were the lowest at R31,758, and Academia the highest at R53,300. Postgraduate students can live in the Masters Flats, at R50,080. VUT estimated meals at R24,000 a year, so budget for food on top of the residence fee.
Paying
National residence students pay a first minimum payment of R2,500 for residence registration, while international residence students pay 100% upfront. Residence fees cover only the academic period, not the January and December holidays. Students who cannot leave on the last day of the academic calendar pay a daily rate.
Cancelling
To cancel your room, do it by 15 March, or the semester is charged in full.
What to expect on sign-in day
SAC and residence management teams are available during the sign-in period to receive registered students, verify their accommodation offers and complete the official residence sign-in. Arrive with all your documents, because missing information can delay or prevent your registration.
Levies
Residence students also pay a non-refundable residence social levy, which was R396 in 2026.
Follow official notices
VUT reminds students and parents that all residence processes are managed through its official channels. Check the Residence Check-In and Student Accommodation section of VUT's website for the latest list of documents before you arrive.
Students with disabilities
VUT's Disability Services Unit supports students with disabilities, so contact it if you need specific accommodation arrangements.
