The University of Limpopo (UL) offers postgraduate certificates and diplomas, honours degrees, master's degrees and doctorates across four faculties, plus the Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership. Its 2027 Postgraduate Prospectus sets out the programmes, admission rules and application steps. Here is how it works, based on UL's official pages.

How to apply online

Current and former UL students log in to iEnabler, open Academic Application, accept the application rules, update their school details and enter up to two qualifications. They can then continue to the residence application if needed.

New postgraduate students go to www.ul.ac.za, click Apply Now and follow the online application wizard. Before you finish, make sure you have entered your qualifications and that the system has issued you a student number. You upload your documents on iEnabler.

Application handling fee

The online application handling fee is R200 for South African students and R750 for international students. Students currently registered at UL do not pay it.

Admission rules

  • Postgraduate certificates, diplomas and honours: a relevant undergraduate qualification and an average final mark of at least 60% in the appropriate major, or a special recommendation by the faculty
  • Master's degrees: a relevant honours degree with at least 60% in the major, or a faculty recommendation
  • Doctoral degrees: a master's degree, or a standard recognised through recognition of prior learning (RPL)

How UL selects

Meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission. At postgraduate diploma and honours level, selection is based on academic history. For master's and doctoral programmes, it depends on supervisor capacity and other resources, and departments may require extra modules. RPL applicants must consult the faculty.

What UL expects

Honours and postgraduate diploma students should spend at least 40 hours a week on their studies. Full-time master's and doctoral students need at least 40 hours a week for 45 weeks of the year. All master's and doctoral students sign a memorandum of understanding with their supervisors, and the research proposal must be approved within six months of registration.

Fees

UL's tuition schedule lists, for example, R28,720 for its MCom and LLM programmes. Check the current schedule for your programme.

Funding

UL says that financial aid is available for postgraduate students, and that faculties can advise on funding. For general postgraduate bursary queries, email postgraduatebursaries@ul.ac.za. For the tuition fee waiver, email tuitionfeewaiver@ul.ac.za.

Contact

For applications, call UL's Enrolment Management call centre on 015 268 3332 or email enrolment@ul.ac.za.
