The University of Limpopo (UL) has many residences on its Turfloop campus, with names such as David Webster, Desmond Tutu, Chief Luthuli and Ruth First. Space is limited, so UL encourages students to apply early. The details below come from UL's 2027 residence application notice, its 2026 residence fees and its student fees guide.

Applying for 2027

Applications for residence space for 2027 were open to prospective first-time entering students and to all undergraduate and postgraduate students. The window closed on 30 September 2026, and UL does not consider late applications. To apply, visit the UL website, select the Residence Application option and follow the prompts. UL's notices say residence applications are made on the Turf Portal, using your student number and PIN.

Paying for residence

Self-funded South African and SADC students pay an advance of R2,000 towards residence before registration, in addition to R3,000 towards tuition. For annual occupation in 2026, 25% of the residence fee was due by 31 March, 50% by 30 June, 75% by 31 August and 100% by 31 October. UL's fee guide also lists a residence administration fee.

Cancelling residence

If you cancel your residence place, do it in writing on the official forms, dated and signed. For year occupancy in 2026, cancelling between 1 January and 30 June meant paying 50% of the total residence fees, and cancelling from 1 July meant paying 100%. Local students also remain liable for a non-refundable residence administration fee of R1,310. Cancellations for medical reasons are considered with full medical documentation, and fee liability may then be waived.

Discounts and rebates

UL's 10% early settlement discount and its family rebates apply to residence fees as well as tuition. See the UL bursaries page.

NSFAS students

If NSFAS funds you, make sure your accommodation is covered and your NSFAS status is confirmed before you move in. Contact the Financial Aid Office for your faculty with any questions.

Contact

For residence enquiries, contact UL's Residence Administration Office. Include your student number in every query, and apply early to secure your space, because UL says availability is limited every year.
