The University of Limpopo (UL) publishes an undergraduate prospectus with its general admission requirements, its APS system and the programmes in each faculty. It is the main document to read before you apply for 2027. Here is what it contains and how to use it.
General admission requirements
For an NSC with a bachelor's pass, the prospectus says you need:
- Life Orientation at level 3 or higher
- English, UL's language of learning and teaching, at level 3 or higher
- Four 20-credit subjects at level 4 or higher for degrees, or level 3 for diplomas
- The minimum levels in specific subjects and the APS set in each faculty's calendar
Other qualifications
- Matriculation certificate (before 2008): you convert your Grade 12 symbols to an APS
- National Certificate (Vocational) level 4: 60% in three fundamental subjects and 70% in four vocational subjects for degrees, or 50% and 60% for diplomas, subject to faculty specifications and placement tests
The APS system
The prospectus explains UL's APS, a simple calculation that any applicant can do. You add the achievement levels of six recognised 20-credit subjects, as each faculty specifies. Life Orientation is not used in the calculation.
Programme tables
Each faculty section lists its programmes with their APS and subject requirements, including extended curriculum programmes. For example, the MBChB needs an APS of 27, with level 5 in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences, and the LLB needs 30.
UL's faculties
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Management and Law
- Faculty of Science and Agriculture
- Faculty of Health Sciences
How to use the prospectus
- Check that you meet the general requirements.
- Calculate your APS from six subjects.
- Compare it with your programme's APS and subject levels.
- Choose two study options, because you can list two on one application.
- Apply online during the application period.
Meeting the minimum
The prospectus repeats that meeting the minimum APS for a programme does not guarantee admission, because space is limited.
Application fee
UL's prospectus lists a non-refundable online application handling fee of R200 for South African students and R750 for international students.
Senior Certificate conversion
The prospectus includes a table that converts Senior Certificate symbols from before 2008, on Higher and Standard Grade, into APS points, so older applicants can work out their score the same way.
Placement tests
Applicants with an NC(V) may have to write placement tests, depending on their faculty's admission specifications.
Other UL documents
UL also publishes a student fees guide, a list of tuition fees per module and a residence fee schedule each year.
