Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) publishes its 2027 General Information for First Year Enrolment, a prospectus-style brochure that covers how to apply, payment, funding, student support and every programme. It was printed in January 2026, and TUT notes that the information may change without notice. Here is what it contains and how to use it.

What is in the TUT brochure

  • Faculties and programme information: TUT's seven faculties and more than 300 programme options
  • Alternative and international qualifications: how TUT evaluates them
  • How to apply: the online application, the R240 application fee for 2027, required documents and how to check your status
  • Forms of payment: TUT accepts no cash on any campus
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: which faculties need which subject
  • Financial aid: external funding, internal awards and NSFAS
  • Student support: counselling, disability services, health and wellness, sport and student governance
  • Accommodation, residence life and catering: residences by campus and how to apply
  • Programme pages: each programme's requirements, APS and closing date

How to use it

  1. Read the Programme Information notes: Life Orientation and an achievement level of 1 are not counted in the APS.
  2. Check whether your programme needs Mathematics, Technical Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.
  3. Find your programme's page for its specific requirements and application deadline.
  4. Prepare your documents and apply online.

Deadlines differ by programme

For 2027, first-year applications opened on 1 April 2026, and each programme's deadline is listed in the brochure. TUT warns that a programme may close at any time once it is full, even if its deadline has not passed.

Basic requirements

TUT needs a National Senior Certificate with at least six subjects, including English at level 3 or higher, and Mathematics, Technical Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy as each programme requires. Bachelor's degrees need four subjects at level 4, and diplomas four at level 3. You may apply with Grade 11 or mid-year Grade 12 results for provisional admission.

Faculty brochures and the prospectus

TUT also lets you download its prospectus and faculty information from the Study at TUT section of its website, and its student fees booklet sets out payment rules.

Required documents

The brochure lists proof of payment of the application fee, a certified copy of your ID and a certified copy of your National Senior Certificate, or your final Grade 11 results if you are in Grade 12.

Campus visits

The brochure explains how Grade 11 and 12 learners can book group visits to TUT's campuses, which should be arranged a month ahead.
