TUT Academic Core Calendar and Term Dates

Reviewed by Makona Mandla · Last checked 5 November 2026

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) publishes a yearly "Academic Core Calendar" for staff and students. It shows the terms, the registration windows, public holidays, graduation dates and a long list of administrative deadlines. The 2027 core calendar is already on the TUT timetables page. This guide pulls out the dates a student or applicant needs most, as they stood on 5 November 2026.

The four TUT terms in 2027

  • Term 1: 1 February to 25 March 2027
  • Term 2: 5 April to 25 June 2027
  • Term 3: 12 July to 17 September 2027
  • Term 4: 27 September to 3 December 2027

Terms 1 and 2 together make up the first semester, and terms 3 and 4 make up the second semester. TUT's calendar also compares its own terms with the public school terms. TUT's terms do not match the school terms, so a student who has a school-going sibling should not assume the holidays line up.

Registration and the start of the year

  • Online registration: 14 to 31 January 2027
  • Late application process: TUT runs a late application round for programmes that still have space, through its online system. It does not accept walk-ins.
  • Final NSC results: TUT sets aside 11 to 14 January 2027 to process them, and it was still waiting for the confirmed publication date when it issued the calendar.

How long each term lasts

The terms are uneven. The first term lasts about eight weeks, and the second is the longest, at about twelve weeks. The third lasts about ten and a half weeks and the fourth about nine and a half. The gaps between terms are short: roughly a week and a half after term one, two weeks after term two and about nine days after term three. Because the second term is so long, students who fall behind in the first few weeks should seek help early, since there is no recess in the middle to catch up.

Graduation and holidays

The graduation season runs from 1 April to 28 May 2027. Public holidays are marked on the calendar, including Good Friday on 26 March and Family Day on 29 March. The calendar also marks periods when TUT is closed or in academic recess.

Other deadlines worth knowing

The core calendar lists many cut-off dates, such as the closing date for registration corrections and the last day to cancel modules without being charged. It also gives the closing date for applications to research-based master's and doctoral programmes and the closing date for exit examination applications. These dates matter if you are already enrolled, because missing one can cost money or delay your results.

Using the calendar

If you plan to apply to TUT, read the how to apply to TUT page first. After that, look at the TUT fees page and TUT bursaries. TUT notes that some of its entries were still waiting for confirmation when it issued the calendar, so check the PDF on the TUT website before you commit to travel or accommodation.
